One of Stillwater’s favorite homebuilders was the late Jack Shelton. Former Oklahoma State University basketball player under Henry Iba and drafted by the Boston Celtics, Jack played in the NBA until coming home to Stillwater to work in his family’s lumber business. While working with his family at Shelton Lumber Company, he began to learn from local builders about the trade and applied that knowledge with the best products he could source through the lumber company. To this day, if a real estate agent is showing a home built by Jack Shelton, it is always something they mention. The construction techniques he followed created homes that continue to stand the test of time, with solid foundations and framing - and most often with a mid-century sense of design.
