| Bio:
I began my trek back into photography after a long break upon seeing a wonderful photograph of Yosemite's El Cap taken by the man who later became my mentor, the late Galen Rowell. I was mesmerized by his striking photograph of the clouds lifting after a storm and the sunlight shining on the face of El Cap and I was drawn back into the world of mountaineering and photography by its beauty. A world class mountaineer and photographer - summiting Everest and many of the world's highest mountains, Galen pioneered the field of adventure photography - his works gracing everything from National Geographic to the Sierra Club to outstanding fine art prints sold in his Mountain Light Gallery in Berkley, California. I feel fortunate to have learned from such a great teacher and adventurer. A lot of my work comes from my time in the mountains of Colorado where I spend many hours driving and hiking the mountainsides. I find the mountains my favorite place to retreat to and it is there that I spend my time among the forests, rivers and peaks - camera gear in my backpack and exploring the trails. I'm the guy you pass in the Jeep with the big smile on his face. Since returning to photography I have moved from 35mm film cameras to a fully digital process that extends from the field to the final print in our studio. The majority of my work is done as large format prints printed on museum-quality paper and archival-quality inks. You can expect one of my color prints to last 85-100 years and my black and white prints to last up to 200 years. I enjoy what I do, but I take it seriously too! Of the things that I have learned that have real significance, one of them is that you must find something that you truly enjoy doing to really live. As Thoreau once said " Go boldly in the direction of your dreams; live the life you have imagined".
